The national society for allergy and clinical immunology in South Africa, supporting the doctors, scientists and allied health professionals who diagnose and treat allergic disease.
The Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA) was founded in 1988 as the national society for allergy and clinical immunology. Its purpose is to advance the knowledge and practice of allergy and immunology through publications, meetings and conferences, and to foster education among both health professionals and the public.
ALLSA is primarily a professional society for medical practitioners, allied healthcare workers and scientists involved in the research, diagnosis, treatment and management of allergic disease. It publishes Current Allergy and Clinical Immunology, its official journal.
Severe allergy is one of the most common reasons South Africans wear a MedicAlert emblem. In an emergency, an engraved emblem tells a responder about anaphylaxis, a drug allergy or a food allergy immediately, before any treatment is given.
