Dementia SA

A national non-profit supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers, with a 24-hour helpline, education and advocacy.

Dementia SA is a South African non-profit organisation that supports people living with dementia, along with their families and carers, in both formal and informal care settings. Its work is particularly aimed at those with limited access to private healthcare.

The organisation runs a 24-hour helpline, raises awareness nationally, and is actively involved in research and ongoing advocacy. It is a leading provider of awareness information, education and support services for those affected by dementia, and campaigns for better training and education in ageing communities.

Its stated vision is to create “a social conscience about dementia in South Africa, with respect and dignity for those affected”.

A MedicAlert emblem can be particularly valuable for someone living with dementia, identifying them and providing a route to their emergency contacts if they become disoriented or are found alone.
