The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa
Established in 1980, the HSFSA leads South Africa's fight against preventable heart disease and stroke through nutrition science, health promotion and public education.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA) plays a leading role in the fight against preventable heart disease and stroke, working towards a country in which fewer people suffer premature death and disability from cardiovascular disease.
Established in 1980, the HSFSA is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that relies on external funding to sustain its work. Its mission is to empower people in South Africa to adopt healthy lifestyles, to make healthy choices easier, to seek appropriate care and to encourage prevention.
The Foundation works across three main streams: nutrition science, health promotion, and public relations and communications. It is a national organisation, with its head office in Cape Town and further branches around the country.
For someone living with a heart condition, an emblem engraved with that condition and their medication can change how a responder treats them in the first minutes of an emergency.
