Organ Donor Foundation of South Africa
Operating since 1988, the Organ Donor Foundation raises awareness of organ and tissue donation and maintains South Africa's public organ donor register.
The Organ Donor Foundation of South Africa (ODF) is a non-profit organisation that raises awareness and educates the public about organ and tissue donation. It has been operating since 1988 and is audited annually.
The ODF initiated, developed and maintains the register on which members of the public record their wish to become an organ donor. People can register online, by completing and returning a form, or through the ODF mobile app. The Foundation also operates a toll-free line on 0800 22 66 11.
One organ donor can save up to seven lives, and one tissue donor can restore the lives of up to fifty people.
Many donors choose to carry that decision on them. A MedicAlert emblem can record organ donor status alongside a member’s medical information.
